Without a doubt, 2012 was a big year for gaming, with significant releases including Black Ops II, Assassin’s Creed III and Halo 4.
And with 2013 still only in its infancy, there are already some big launches on the horizon this spring, with many available as a PC games download, making it easier than ever to get your hands on your favourite titles.
Here are some of Spring’s hottest new releases:
Grand Theft Auto V
Grand Theft Auto releases always drum up huge excitement in gaming circles, however, even among the long list of much heralded titles, GTA V is one of the most hotly anticipated yet. The latest in the Rockstar developed series is set to feature a massive new map, bigger than the playing areas of Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV and GTA San Andreas put together, and more mini games than ever. The game, set for release in spring 2013, will also have, for the first time ever in the series, three interchangeable playable characters, as well as the usual wide array of cars and carnage.
Star Trek
Film based games are often nothing more than money making spin offs, however, the latest offering from the Star Trek franchise is a solid title in its own right. The space based action adventure game will be on the shelves in spring, in time to coincide with the film Star Trek into Darkness. Described as a “bro-op” by Steve Sinclair, Creative Director at developers Digital Extremes, the title will feature an exciting co-operative gameplay where main characters Kirk and Spock can be separately controlled.
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider was once a gaming institution, with millions playing the first installments of the popular series. However, over time the action adventure franchise has stagnated, with the most recent titles seriously damaging the famous name. The once trail blazing game has even now been overtaken by several copycat titles. However, the series looks set to get a shot in the arm this spring, with the release of the hotly anticipated Crystal Dynamics developed title Tomb Raider. Far from trying to reinvent the wheel, this latest offering will go back and explore the back-story of the most enduring character in the series, Lara Croft.
God of War: Ascension
Scheduled for release on 12th March, the latest in the SCE Santa Monica Studio developed series, God of War: Ascension looks set to continue the good work of its predecessors. Along with the engaging Greek mythology storyline, Ascension will feature a multiplayer mode, the first time ever in the series, as well as all new game mechanics and a revamped combat and weapon systems.
